It’s an incredible time to be a Hiromu Arakawa fan! As we move through January 2026, the hype for the anime adaptation of her latest masterpiece is reaching a fever pitch.
Here is the latest breakdown of everything we know so far about the Yomi no Tsugai (also known as Daemons of the Shadow Realm) anime.

1. Release Date: When is it dropping?
The wait is almost over! The Yomi no Tsugai anime is officially scheduled to premiere in April 2026. The series is confirmed to run for two consecutive cours, meaning we’ll get approximately 24 to 26 episodes of non-stop action without a seasonal break.
2. The Production "Dream Team"
For this adaptation, a powerhouse team has been assembled to ensure the highest quality and loyalty to the original manga:
3. Synopsis: What is this new story about?
The plot follows Yuru, a young man living in a remote mountain village in harmony with nature. However, his peaceful life shatters when he discovers his village hides dark secrets and that his twin sister, Asa, is not who he thought she was. Yuru must learn to command the Tsugai—powerful supernatural beings that exist in pairs—to claim his destiny in a world where the duality of day and night, life and death, is everything.

4. Where can we watch it?
Crunchyroll has officially confirmed they hold the global distribution rights. We’ll be able to watch the simulcast (episodes airing shortly after Japan) with subtitles, and a "simuldub" (fast-track dubbing) is highly expected given Arakawa’s worldwide popularity.
Fun Fact: The manga has already surpassed 4 million copies in circulation, cementing its place as a cornerstone of Square Enix’s Monthly Shonen Gangan.
What to expect from the trailer?
The latest teasers have showcased fluid animation, particularly during the Tsugai (guardian statue) combat sequences. The aesthetic maintains that signature "rustic-meets-modern" vibe that Arakawa handles so perfectly.
